During my recent trip to Greece, I was fortunate to participate in a yoga class at The EGG, on the Aegean Sea, on the island of Ikaria, one of the world's Blue Zones.
It was awesome.
Our teacher, Angeliki, led us through deep prana, asana, visualizations, imagery, a wide variety of relaxing poses, and a guided Savasana.
The view and atmosphere in the open-air studio were absolutely relaxing and beautiful, as I gazed onto the Aegean Sea. It was magical.
In addition to the beauty of the physical location, it was beautiful to see how Angeliki interacted with students in both English and Greek, students of all levels, providing adjustments and instructions as we progressed through our practice. I especially liked Angeliki's references to "Mother Earth" and "Heaven", and "Earth" and "Sky".
I learned a lot from this class, and have made an adjustment to my practice to help me to take a more restorative approach, versus a more intense, muscular approach, during a yoga practice at such a late hour in the day.
This aligns with what I learned in the "Where Ayurveda & Yoga Meet" workshop with Marc Holzman also, where it is so important to respect the natural biological rhythms of the time of day and our bodies, along with these rhythms and the pace of our yoga practice, to reflect that biological rhythm.
Many thanks to Angeliki, Katrin and all of the lovely students I met at The EGG!
It would be great to hold a Yummy Arts Yoga Retreat! at The EGG one day!
